What is RSS and what is a RSS feed?

RSS is generally understood to stand for Really Simple Syndication. What RSS does is provide a means to have new content that is added to your favorite websites, automatically delivered directly to your computer. An RSS feed is a stream of content available from a website. Travel Media now has 3 RSS feeds, Travel Media-Events, Travel Media-Press Releases & Travel Media-Travel Industry News. You can subscribe to all 3 absolutely free.

Does RSS affect how I usually read the Travel Media website?

If you prefer reading the website like you have always done RSS will not affect so, in anyway. Think of RSS as a free, optional extra.

How do I get RSS to work for me?

First a free piece of software called a "Feed Reader" needs to be installed on your computer. It is quite possible you already have a Feed Reader already installed on your computer. Check the short-list below for our suggested Feed Reader software.

Secondly, you subscribe to a RSS Feed within the Feed Reader. To do this click ont he RSS Feed symbol and if your computer has associated RSS with your Feed Reader it will open automatically, this association should happen automatically when you install the software. Alternatively, if you click on the New Feed option in your feed reader you will be asked for the RSS Feed address. You can get this by right-clicking on the desired RSS symbol and choose the "Copy Shortcut" option, if using Internet Explorer. You then paste the RSS Feed address directly into your FeedReader where properted for the RSS feed address. Then content should start to be automatically delivered to your computer.

If you don't already have a Feed Reader on your computer it will typically take about 5 minutes to download, install and setup your first RSS feed.

RSS is used by most of the News websites, any site that regularly updates its content and any site that wants to make keeping its visitors informed as easy as possible. This includes both the BBC and RTE, amongst many others.
