Cork Airport celebrates inaugural manx2.com Cork to Galway flight 6th July 2010

Monday, July 5th, 2010. Management and staff at Cork Airport were recently on hand to wish Manx2.com a safe inaugural flight from Cork to Galway. The newly launched service will operate every Friday and Sunday between the two cities and will greatly improve connectivity between Cork and the West of Ireland by reducing travel time from approximately three hours to just 40 minutes.

Fares start from €29.95 each way including taxes and charges. This launch is the first of Manx2.com’s expansion plans into Ireland and is seen as a huge boost for business, tourism and leisure in Cork.

Kevin Cullinane, Marketing Manager, Cork Airport, said: “Cork and Galway are very attractive city break destinations in that there are many festivals, attractions and sights to see in very close proximity to the two city airports. Manx2.com smartly recognised the market for travellers who don't want to drive 3 hours to get to their destination to enjoy their weekend."

Manx2.com Chairman, Noel Hayes echoed these sentiments prior to the inaugural flight: “We are delighted the launch day is finally upon us. We cannot wait to bring our award-winning service to communities throughout the South and West. The current economic climate is the toughest we’ve known but we have great confidence in the long term prospects for the Irish economy and are pleased to be able to improve connectivity between Cork and Galway, in turn stimulating commerce and tourism in both these regions. Whether passengers are travelling for business or leisure purposes or to reconnect with friends and families, this is the perfect getaway.”

Launched in 2006, Manx2.com currently carries 100,000 passengers a year between the Isle of Man and Blackpool, Belfast, Leeds Bradford, Newcastle, Gloucester and Jersey. In November 2009 it was voted the Island’s best small company for the second time in three years at the annual Isle of Man Newspapers’ Awards for Excellence.

The company, which is based in the Isle of Man, experienced a record-breaking year in 2009 by carrying more than 100,000 passengers. Manx2.com employs 60 staff and has a fleet of seven aircraft providing up to 30 flights a day to the Isle of Man.
