Turismo de Portugal launches Clean & Safe Platform

Press release date: 12th June 2020

The Portuguese Tourist Board has launched an official platform to allow tourists to search for establishments which have adhered to the Clean & Safe stamp, a health and safety measure established earlier this year by the tourist board, in response to  the COVID-19 pandemic.

Developed by Infraspeak, with the support of Google, the Clean & Safe platform identifies the location of tourist companies and related sectors, which commit to complying with the hygiene and health requirements outlined by the General Directorate of Health’s guidelines, thus meeting the standard of the Clean & Safe stamp. The platform is available in both English and Portuguese.

In addition to identifying and locating Clean & Safe companies, the platform monitors the tourists’ confidence index, allowing assessments by tourists themselves on their degree of satisfaction on a company’s compliance with the requirements of the stamp. This is then communicated directly to the Portuguese Tourist Board. The evaluation of customers will be one of the indicators used by the Tourist Board to carry out random inspections of participating companies and services, together with authorities and associations representing the activities.

The Clean & Safe stamp was created by the Portuguese Tourist Board in April with the aim to help companies identify measures to be adopted and also to strengthen the confidence of domestic and international tourists in Portugal, showing that it is a safe tourist destination.

The initiative covers the entire tourism industry and already has more than 12,000 members in the areas of accommodation, entertainment, travel and tourism agencies, restaurants, golf, rent-a-car, casinos and cultural facilities.

Free of charge, the Clean & Safe stamp is valid until the 30th of April, 2021. The Portuguese Tourist Board promotes the necessary training for companies to implement associated measures and has  already trained more than 15,000 people.
