Meet the Derry Travel Agent that has made the move to Barbados

Yvonne Campbell, a travel agent from Co. Derry, could never have imagined that 2020 would take her from Northern Ireland to the island of Barbados, but one month on from her move, Yvonne is settling into the island way of life. Yvonne is just one of over 2,000 people globally that have applied for the Barbados Welcome Stamp, a special visa for remote workers who want to work and live in Barbados.

“After many extended trips overseas, I’d always dreamed of becoming location independent. 2020 was going to my year but the pandemic had other plans for me” says Yvonne.

The Barbados Welcome Stamp visa is valid for one year but may be re-applied for again. With glorious sunshine, beautiful beaches, good-quality broadband, and an enviable work-life balance, it’s easy to see why Barbados was the destination of choice for Yvonne.

Yvonne is a seasoned traveller, with 58 countries, and counting, under her belt. Her career as a Travel Counsellor (specialising in luxury bucket list, honeymoons, and other special occasion holidays and now Barbados) allows Yvonne to run her business from anywhere in the world, something which was highlighted during the current restrictions.

It was in early December 2020 that Yvonne took the leap, packed up her life and jetted off to Barbados.

Yvonne says it didn’t take much convincing once her visa had been approved, “It was an easy decision which I made within one hour on a Sunday night. I had my flight booked by 8am the following morning”.

Since her arrival on the island Yvonne has launched a podcast entitled Life in Barbados: A Year on a Paradise IslandThe podcast follows her daily adventures over the course of a year on the Barbados Welcome Stamp.

“You’ll be able to follow my adventures, live on the ground and experience life in Barbados through my eyes and ears,” says Yvonne. “Whether you’re interested in visiting Barbados yourself, or exploring the idea of location independent living, this is the show for you.”

People that want a little taste of the Bajan way of life can tune into the podcast on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, Stitcher, Podchaser, Catbox, Pocket Casts and Breaker.
