Ciara travels to Barbados for a Crop Over Press Trip

Ciara Dunne of TravelMedia.ie hosted a once in a lifetime press trip to beautiful Barbados this month. On the 27th of July, Ciara took a group of 5 journalists and bloggers from across the UK and Ireland to witness the return of the sweetest summer festival, Crop Over.

The Crop Over summer festival is Barbados’ most popular and colourful festival. Its origins can be traced back to the 1780s, a time when Barbados was the world’s largest producer of sugar. At the end of the sugar season, there was always a huge celebration to mark the culmination of another successful sugar cane harvest – the Crop Over celebration.

The Crop Over Festival can be considered as one of the most diverse festivals in the world: a rich mix of heritage, creative arts, parties, music and masquerade. It was an exciting journey that began on the plantation and continued in a glorious mingling of tradition and innovation.

Throughout the jam-packed week of parties, events and fabulous Bajan feasts, the group experienced Barbados at its best. They enjoyed many ‘SOCA’ parties, covered themselves in paint in the Native Foreday Fete and of course jumped in with the band ‘Aura’ during the event of the season – the Grand Kadooment. We could write an entire post on this magical trip to the island.

The trip resulted in a range of social media content from our influencers, including wonderful Instagram Reels, Posts, Stories and exciting TikToks that are sure to make you drool…
