OROKO Travel reports 46% rise in Egypt enquiries

Private Nile sailings and expert-led itineraries are among the experiences attracting interest in the destination
OROKO Travel has reported a 46% year-on-year increase in enquiries for Egypt, with private Nile sailings and individually guided journeys among the experiences drawing interest from its clients.

Alongside Egypt’s familiar attractions, from the Pyramids of Giza to the temples of Luxor, the luxury travel specialist is highlighting journeys aboard traditional dahabiyas: small sailing vessels that offer an intimate way to explore the Nile.

Travellers can join a dahabiya sailing with other guests, with OROKO arranging a private Egyptologist who travels by land and meets them for excursions along the route. Exclusive charters are also available for families and groups who would like the vessel to themselves. Days combine visits to archaeological sites with time on the river, passing farmland, villages and the desert landscapes between Luxor and Aswan.

The appeal extends beyond having a smaller vessel. Private guiding allows travellers to explore the history in greater depth, while carefully planned excursions can help them visit popular sites at quieter times where possible.

Emilie Lynam, OROKO’s Head of Product & Marketing, recently returned from a five-night dahabiya journey on the Nile.

“Some of my strongest memories are of the time between the temples: watching life along the riverbanks and having the space to take it all in,” she said.

“Our Egyptologists also made an enormous difference. An inscription I might otherwise have walked past became a way to understand how the ancient Egyptians measured time or followed the rhythms of the Nile. Those details connected the places we visited and made the journey much more rewarding.”

OROKO’s Egypt itineraries combine time in Cairo with exploration of the Nile, allowing travellers to experience the capital’s museums and monuments before continuing to Luxor and Aswan. Journeys can be tailored around individual interests, whether travelling as a couple, a family or a private group.

For those considering Egypt, Emilie recommends giving the itinerary enough time.

“There is a temptation to fit in as many sites as possible, but I would encourage people to leave room to enjoy the river itself. Five nights aboard a dahabiya gave us time to settle into the journey and appreciate what was around us.”
