Steps for picking your family ski trip with Crystal Ski

  • Enjoy time on the piste with the whole family this ski season
  • Crystal Childcare can take care of little ones while parents hit the slopes
A family ski trip can be exciting for both parents and children, and swapping the playground for the piste couldn’t be easier with Crystal Ski’s family holiday options. Here are Crystal Ski’s top tips for booking your family trip to the slopes this winter.

Choosing when to go

For the best choice of hotels and dates, families should book as early as possible. School holidays on the slopes are packed with fun, and choosing the best time to go depends on what kind of trip your family is looking for. Would you prefer a Christmas break in the snow, or half-term break jam packed with activities? For those with little ones who haven’t yet started school, January is great for quiet pistes and lots of snow.

Picking your ideal resort

Using the ‘best for families’ filter on CrystalSki.ie makes it easy to find the top ski resorts for families. These resorts have family-friendly accommodation that’s close to ski lifts, so you can get to the slopes quickly each day. You can use the ‘best for families’ filter on accommodation too, to see apartments and hotels that have facilities like pools, kids’ clubs and playrooms.

Using the additional filters on the site, you can find a resort with all the things that are important to you – like slopes suitable for beginners or a short transfer from the airport. In some resorts, you can add our Crystal Childcare* to your holiday for kids aged 6 months to 8 years too.

The Crystal Childcare team know how to make sure little ones have the best ski holiday ever. From days filled with building snowmen to sliding on sledges, or afternoons spent crafting, parents can have peace of mind that little ones are in top notch care while they enjoy some ‘me’ time on the slopes.

Pepi Penguin Nursery for children aged 6 months to 3 years is available Flaine and Alpe d’Huez in France, and 6 months to 4 years in Passo Tonale and La Thuile in Italy. Beanie Bear Clubs are available for older ones aged 3-8 years in Flaine and Alpe d’Huez, and for 4-8 years in Passo Tonale and La Thuile. Add Ski essentials

It’s a good idea to sort your ski essentials like equipment hire*, ski or snowboard lessons* and lift passes* before you go, so they’re ready for when you arrive – they can be added to your holiday when you book.

You can hire equipment including skis, poles and ski boots or a snowboard and board boots. A helmet is also vital, and kids will often get one included for free with their equipment hire**. In many places, children must wear a helmet by law, and in some countries, this also applies to adults too. You can add lift passes to your booking too, which is a ticket allows you to use the lifts so you can get around the mountain.

There are also ski or board schools* available where you can learn the ropes with a professional ski instructor. Children usually need to be 3 or 4 years old for ski lessons and 8 years old for snowboard lessons, and they run in the morning or afternoon.

When it comes to how to book your ski trip, you’ve got lots of options with Crystal. You can browse the best deals and book everything on our website, or you can give Crystal Ski a call or visit one of TUI retail stores.
