Dublin, May 13th 2025 – Portugal will be in a central theme at the Dalkey Book Festival 2025, held from 12–15 June in the historic seaside town of Dalkey, County Dublin. Now in its 15th year, the festival is a key event on Ireland’s cultural calendar, welcoming international authors and readers to one of the country’s most scenic literary settings.
As part of this year’s special focus on Portugal, the festival will host a range of events celebrating Portuguese literature, culture, flavours and world‑renowned Portuguese wines. Esteemed historian Filipe Ribeiro de Meneses and award-winning author Afonso Cruz, one of Portugal’s most distinctive literary voices, will be among the featured guests exploring the country’s vibrant storytelling tradition.
This year’s edition promises to be the most exciting yet, featuring over 100 speakers across 84 events in 11 locations throughout Dalkey. Literary luminaries such as Michael Lewis and Charlie Mackesy will headline the festival, which attracted over 20,000 visitors in 2024 by foot, car, bike, DART, and bus.
Carlos Oliveira, Director of Visit Portugal Ireland, said:
“We are thrilled to present Portugal at the Dalkey Book Festival 2025, an event that mirrors our own passion for storytelling, culture and meaningful exchanges. Literature has long played a central role in both Portuguese and Irish identity and this partnership is a celebration of that shared spirit. In response to the growing interest in Portugal, we’re especially proud to showcase Portuguese literature, history, and gastronomy.”
