Facebook has a post reach problem

[su_heading style=”default” size=”13″ align=”center” margin=”20″]Another day, another Facebook related issue and this time it’s to do with post reach.[/su_heading]

Since Facebook began rolling out its most recent business page update, users have been complaining that the organic reach on their posts have significantly decreased with some reporting that their reach has decreased by thousands.

Here at TravelMedia.ie, we have been experiencing this problem first hand on multiple pages over the last few days.

Posts that would normally receive views in the thousands are now reaching just 20 or 30 people.

Strangely, our posts are still receiving multiple likes but often the reach is much lower than the number of likes the posts have received.

For example, one post sent out by the TravelMedia.ie team  received 54 likes and 1 share but apparently only reached 27 people – clearly there is a serious problem.

Facebook has a post reach problem

Facebook has yet to respond to any complaint reports submitted by TravelMedia.ie and are also yet to respond to any of the numerous questions submitted to the Facebook help community.

So why this is happening? Well, the widely held opinion is that it has something to do with the new Facebook business page update.

A number of users have commented that since receiving the new layout, their reach has dropped significantly leading many to believe that this is the source of the problem.

However, there are users reporting this problem over the last month or so who had not yet updated to the new layout so this may just be a glitch in the system.

There are also some users suggesting that this decrease in reach is in fact an attempt by Facebook to encourage users to stop relying on organic reach and to pay for their posts.

Regardless of the reasons why this is happening, let’s hope that Facebook takes the time to respond to their many disgruntled users and fix this problem ASAP.

UPDATE – 4th July

Facebook has added a message to the Facebook insights page about this issue.

The message says that there is a “known issue” about the “discrepancy in the engagement and reach metrics for all Page Posts and Boosted Posts between 5/30 and 6/30.”

Facebook have said they “are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.”
