Killashee’s Philip Gleeson to Take the Stage at Taste of Kildare

Kildare’s premier culinary showcase returns with a feast of flavours. Someone to look out for across the weekend is of the festival’s leading lights, Executive Head Chef at Killashee Hotel, Philip Gleeson.

This year’s Taste of Kildare, taking place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th August at Naas Racecourse, promises a packed weekend of gourmet experiences, local producers, and family fun – and at the heart of it all will be live chef demos from some of Ireland’s top culinary talent.

Among the standout names is Philip Gleeson, Executive Head Chef at the luxurious Killashee Hotel, who will be bringing his skills, stories and passion for local produce to the main demo stage.

For Philip, the journey to the top kitchen at Killashee began humbly, cooking a full Irish breakfast for his dad as a child.

“Cheffing runs in my Mam’s side of the family,” he says. “My uncles were chefs and ran restaurants, so I always knew this was the path.”

Having honed his craft in prestigious kitchens like The Conrad and The Morrison in Dublin, and later in Australia alongside some of the industry’s finest, Philip now champions the growing food scene in Kildare.

“The scene here has gone from strength to strength each year I’ve lived and worked in the county,” he explains. “Taste of Kildare is so important. It keeps local culinary talent in the spotlight and shows just how much Kildare has to offer.”

Live Demo at Taste of Kildare

Visitors to this year’s Taste of Kildare can catch Philip in action during one of the weekend’s live cookery demos, where he’ll be showcasing his flair for fresh, seasonal ingredients and creative yet approachable dishes.

There will 25 food vendors at Taste of Kildare, all offering something a little bit different. Philip’s nod goes to Firecastle, artisan grocery store, deli, café, cookery school and a favourite in their home of Kildare Town.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing all the different food offerings – and catching up with so many familiar faces in hospitality,” says Philip. “There’s a great sense of community at events like this.”
